- If you read the books, though, the character of Eric Northman isn’t Bad Boy at all. He’s Charmer mixed with a bit of Warrior and even Best Friend. Charlaine Harris clearly loves Eric too, as in the books he replaces Bill Compton as Sookie’s main love interest (excepting one brief interlude she has with another man). Bill is pretty much relegated to the romantic sidelines starting with Book 2 in the novels. Another interesting point: Sookie is worried about her “number” too. That comes up a few times in the novels.
- As an aside, Susan, I absolutely love your blog, and I’m completely not the intended audience. I’m an almost-38-yr-old married woman who NEVER EVER participated in the hookup culture, not so much because of my virtue but because of my body insecurities and my fear of men. Unfortunately, I did have a one-night stand in my life, and I do regret it. I’ve only had three sexual partners total (the last one I married, phew). I had regretted missing out on the whole young love/carefree sex thing in college to some extent, but now I’m really glad I did. My husband’s “number” is the same as mine, another thing I’m very glad for.

- @Obsidian,
- Do you think clubs are the absolute best place to pick up women? Just curious what your take on where you found the best fishing?

- Zuckerman, ironically, does very well with women, and has since he was an undergrad at Harvard. He has a “niche”, of course, but he knows how to work his niche. And of course now he has the name factor as well, but he did fine even before that. There’s a reason why his focus was initially on “social” software …
- On the “self-selecting group”, I think every person (male or female) needs to decide what kind of relationship they want and what type of person they want to have a relationship with, and match that with your effort.
